A huge part of my spiritual journey began with an introduction to metaphysics. I saw early on how metaphysics weaved into all areas of my life and provided the tools I needed to expand and grow. What is metaphysics? What is spirituality? Are they the same? These are questions I asked upon awakening to consciousness. Metaphysics is the philosophical study of all things unseen that contribute to forming reality, while spirituality is the path one takes to connect with The Divine Spirit of that all. Metaphysics and spirituality are different but complement each other. People can study metaphysics and not be spiritual. Likewise, people can practice spirituality and not subscribe to metaphysics, such as devout Christians. Therefore, I study spiritual metaphysics and its practical application.
So, what are your thoughts on metaphysics? Is spiritual metaphysics for you? Where do you begin? Are you just following the “New Age” trend? What is your why for consciously moving forward on your spiritual path? What is your goal? These questions are essential as you consciously begin on YOUR path. And it is yours alone. There is no proper path or way to start your spiritual journey, but your intentions should be clear and righteous per your moral compass. Your journey will reflect your truth. Here is the kicker – you have been on a spiritual journey from the moment you were born onto this 3D physical plane, and everything you have manifested in your life results from your spiritual journey thus far. There is nothing to search for because everything you need is within you; you only need to remember who and what you are to create the ideal reality you want. You, me, and everyone around us are energetic beings having a human experience. Each of us is The Divine Spirit having a human existence via the Soul. The Divine Spirit wants to explore in ALL ways. Created in the image and likeness of The Divine Spirit (Genesis 1:27), you are here to experience life and live it abundantly (John 10:10). The world’s distractions, injustices, and indoctrinations have robbed us of knowing that, and your journey consciously begins when you become aware of the thief and its tools.
The following are my recommendations in preparing yourself for remembering your Higher Self and promoting it to the front seat of your life, advising from the perspective of spiritual metaphysics. These are pretty much all the steps I went through; not necessarily in this order, but the order is essential. Please don’t take these steps as rules; just my informed perspective and advice to get you started. Before getting into the popular areas of working with deities and spell work, I advise at least getting very acquainted with step 3. The information I present here is meant to give you a starting point and not go too deep into each subject. Reflect, meditate, or pray on each step as you go along, and direction will come to you on how to infuse spiritual metaphysics into your life. Learn to recognize and trust your own Higher Self, the subtle voice of The Divine Spirit that dwells within you.
Step 1 ~ Turn Off the Television and Radio!
Speaking specifically of network television and broadcast radio, the primary means of mind control used by the powers that be. Look at the words used to describe them: programming, cast, channels, frequency. Both program your mind in the manner they want by tapping into the intricacies of the brain using advanced mind control techniques to invade your subconscious, influence your emotions, and alter your behavior. The result? Chaos, disorder, overflowing prisons, destroyed family structures, division among fellow humans, etc.
Turning off the television and radio stops that frequency from entering your senses, awakening you to the Higher Self within (Romans 12:2). It also allows the conscious mind to begin purging the subconscious of limiting behaviors and beliefs implanted from them. And do not think you’ll be out of the loop with what is going on in the world. I turned off the television and radio in 2017, and I am very aware of what is going on. The point is to filter what you allow into your senses. Begin the filtering with your television and radio. If you must watch or listen, take advantage of streaming options that you can control such as Netflix or any paid streaming music app. Your selection of videos and music will have their subliminal programming in them as well through symbolism. But as time passes on your journey you will recognize the agendas right away and process them accordingly. You really want to get away from seeing commercials though, the most robust mind control! Also, I spent at least the first two years exclusively watching YouTubers discuss spiritual concepts, guided meditations, and high-frequency music consistently throughout the day every day. This really helped deprogram me from the mind control and reprogrammed my consciousness to focus on those things that benefit my highest good.
Step 2 ~ Innerstand Your Energy
Once you begin to control what you allow into your senses, the next step is to explore your energetic makeup. Your natal chart, numerology, and chakras make up the energetic blueprint of your being.
The natal chart maps out how the cosmic bodies (Sun, Moon, planets, and notable asteroids) were aligned at the time of your birth. Each cosmic body has its own energetic property that influences your energetic vibration, depending on what house and zodiac sign they fall. Current transitions also impact your vibration. Get to know your natal chart intimately, and it will explain why life has transpired as it has for you. The natal chart provides excellent insight into past events, and it can be a great predictor to gauge how others may react in any situation when you know their chart placements. The goal however is to transcend the natal chart and not be bound by what it reveals about you. Anything unfavorable can be changed, or you can use the favorable aspects to your advantage. But the ability to do this comes with spiritual maturity. You can obtain a free natal chart and interpretation at www.cafeastrology.com.
Numerology is the study of numbers and how they impact our lives. Math is in everything and all around us, carrying its own vibration. Your name and date of birth are used to determine your unique numeric signature. Different formulas are used to calculate your core numbers (life path, expression, soul urge, destiny, and karmic). As a companion to the natal chart, your numerology can be a predictor of present and future events. You can obtain your core numbers and interpretations at www.numerology.com.
Chakras are the energy portals of the human body. Represented as wheels, the chakras are responsible for the energy flow of the body and creates the electromagnetic field surrounding you (aura). Different colors represent each chakra, and each chakra is associated with a celestial body and organ within our own bodies (as above, so below). Typically, seven chakras are discussed (root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, crown) and they all must be in balance for optimum health. Circumstances in our lives however get these energy wheels out of balance. Embarking on a spiritual path begins the work of getting your chakras back in alignment to harmonize mind, body, and Soul. You can obtain more information on chakras at www.chakras.info.
There is so much information that exists pertaining to the natal chart, numerology, and the chakras. How you interpret and engage with these energetic principles will depend on your resonance with the information you come across and what is channeled to you through reflection, meditation, or prayer.
Step 3 ~ Shadow Work!
This to me is the most crucial step of the journey. I think that anyone doing work on or for others should have gone through this step, at the very least releasing their fears. Doing my shadow work is the reason I can write and publicly express my thoughts now. I was terrified of doing so before! What is shadow work? There are many definitions, but my personal description is digging up all the fears and emotional baggage that keep me confined; all the things I don’t show to the world or admit. Digging up all the undesirable things I deny are there and hide from others, and even accepting and embracing the darker aspects of myself. What happens when we do not acknowledge and face our shadow? We eventually act those fears and emotions out, often in ways that are unfavorable to our well-being. We also hold onto limiting beliefs that prevent us from living our best, authentic life and cultivating our inner peace. This step should not be rushed. Doing your shadow work helps silence the ego, gives strength when dealing with others, develops your discernment, leads to trusting yourself by recognizing your higher self, following your own path not dictated by others, stop comparisons to others, and so much more! This is the only time I will advise you to move ahead if you need to. While doing your shadow work if you need support, employ the protection and cleansing techniques in step 5.
Part 1: Release Your Fears
Now for the fun part! First take a self-evaluation of all your fears. I don’t just mean fear of spiders, heights, etc. Also include those deep, psychological fears that you feel in your being when you think of them. Things such as death and dying, poverty, or something you do not understand such as Voodoo for example. Get a journal, write down all your fears, and explore them one by one. Examine where the fear originated and every sensation you can remember associated with it. Answer the following questions:
- Does the fear pertain to you directly or is it someone else’s, like your mother’s?
- Is the fear dependent on another fear?
- Is the fear rational, logical?
- Is this a fear that really exists, or did you create it?
- Is the threat of the fear still present in your life?
- And finally, how would your life improve if you released this fear?
The point of answering these questions is to get you to consciously reflect on your fears and think about how they have impacted you as well as getting you to see the benefits of releasing them. Working through my fears allows me to write and express my thoughts publicly. Up until I removed the fear of using my voice, I was so fearful of others judgement. So, I suppressed my voice in my childhood and early adulthood. I was a prisoner in relationships, often hiding my voice not to make waves, to get them to stay. I asked myself all the above questions and worked through the fear, diving headfirst into writing and sharing. Slowly the fear disappeared.
As I mentioned earlier about working with deities and spell work, releasing your fears also prepares you to process information you may have previously feared such as about demons and the occult. Speaking of my personal experience, up until I would say 2018 you could not get me to sit and watch horror or demonic movies or television. My fears were irrational and watching also posed no threat. And through my metaphysical and spiritual studies, as I watch I see the hidden themes in everything including horror and demonic movies. They actually teach me more about the nature of my reality, our world, and humanity. Part of that fear also was it not being “Christian-like” or what morally upright people do. So, I allowed society to dictate my fears and I suppressed myself out of the fear of judgement. Working through your fears unblocks the path to more understanding of yourself and the world.
Part 2: Release Your Emotional Baggage
Next, the emotional self-evaluation is even more profound. This is where you dig up all the childhood trauma that shaped you into who you are and all your insecurities. Here is where you dig up all those things that society and those around you have falsely made you believe about yourself. These parts of your shadow hold you back from being your best self. This is where you also reflect on those darker aspects of yourself and reconcile with them, recognizing your dual nature and accepting all of you. For me it was abandonment issues, and because of them I was a doormat in relationships. Once I faced and worked through those abandonment issues, I became more assertive in my relationships and set boundaries. And the darker aspects of myself such as my promiscuity in my youth, I no longer beat myself up over my past mistakes. I accept the promiscuity as a part of my life lessons, and I’m even able to help young women understand their own behaviors.
The world does an excellent job of molding us into what will be productive to charge the machine of capitalism, government, patriarchy, etc. The biggest reason we must evaluate our emotional state is to learn how to manage our emotions. Our emotions are what is fed off and the reason for a lot of the chaos in the world. It is crucial to work through emotional blocks and traumas when embarking on your spiritual journey. If you don’t, you open yourself up to malevolent energies waiting to embody and take advantage of you. More on that another time.
Step 4 ~ Take Inventory
So, you are well into your shadow work…congratulations! Shadow work takes accountability and courage to move through, you should be proud of yourself. Next on the path is taking inventory of your beliefs, the quality of your relationships, career satisfaction, and your material items. Why is this important? Because you are reinventing yourself, learning who you indeed are without all the distractions and indoctrination.
Steps 1 through 3 introduced you to all those things that shaped who you are. Now time to take inventory of your life and either keep the things that support where you are trying to go or purge those things that do not serve your highest good. What are your beliefs about God, religion, paganism, etc.? Is there an equal exchange of energy in your relationships? Do you enjoy the job you go to every day? Are you content with your home, car, etc.? Here is where you begin to apply what you’ve learned about yourself thus far to your daily life. Changing where you need to, purging what doesn’t work, and being grateful for what you have. This step may bring an end to certain relationships, inspire a job change, or cause a move. Where the first three steps were focused internally, this step requires you to act in your outer reality. This takes strength and bravery as well, and because you’ve made it this far you are a badass!
Step 5 ~ Learn Protection and Cleansing Techniques
Before going any further, we must discuss protection and cleansing tools. These practices can be engaged in at the onset of your spiritual journey, and especially beneficial in shadow work. Very important to know protection and cleansing tools and techniques at this point as you will be exposing yourself to a firehose of information coming from all directions. Items such as crystals, smoke smudging, and spiritual baths protect or cleanse your energy body to facilitate your connection with The Divine Spirit and to deter or chase away malevolent entities. Do not fear however, you got rid of that in step 3 remember ;-). My favorite crystal for protection and cleansing my energy body while doing shadow work is Black Obsidian, and my favorite smudge for protection and cleansing my space is Dragons Blood resin or incense. I don’t take as many spiritual baths as I would like since I don’t have the tub I desire (yet) to do a nice, deep soak. I do however do spiritual showers daily using Florida Water or Purification soaps and other magikal or natural soaps while speaking my intentions, followed by anointing myself with a blend of essential and carrier oil. This ritual prepares me for my day. But spiritual baths are vital for cleansing energetically and setting intentions, and there are many books on the subject that will resonate as you begin your studies. The important take away from this section is PROTECT and CLEANSE as you start to dive into the next step.
Step 6 ~ Study, Study, Study!
This step aims to fill your conscious mind with helpful information that will aid you with moving along on your spiritual journey. Study to show thyself approved and to carry out the mission of The Divine Spirit (2Timothy 2:15). It is ideal to have an intimate understanding of your historical and cultural roots. This understanding allows you to discern incoming information as well as shape your spiritual practice. Next, study age-old wisdom such as The Emerald Tablets, The Book of Coming Forth By Day, and The Kybalion, going to the source of where a lot of spiritual and religious knowledge and holy books derive. Also examine reference books such as dictionaries and encyclopedias on symbolism and other spiritual subjects. Studying in this manner will provide a foundation for further study as you deep dive down the rabbit hole of scientific, metaphysical, mystical, esoteric (mysterious), or occult (hidden) knowledge if you are led down that path. Again, we left fear in step 3 ;-).
A good portion of the information you will come across are humans interpreting all this information in their own publications, which may display bias and a lean towards their own agenda. Even in spiritual circles, this unfortunately includes racial, gender, age, class, and religious bias. Discernment is key. Take what’s useful, and toss the rest. Being led by your higher self, go to the source of the information, and trust your intuitive understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). Meditate on what you have taken in. Your Higher Self will tell you what to keep and what to throw away. Also, meditation is important to hear the voice and commune with your Higher Self. Learn to meditate through this entire process.
Conclusion
Again, what is your why of consciously moving forward on your spiritual path? What is your goal? My desire is for this writing to assist and inspire you on your spiritual journey. Through your mother’s womb you were bearthed (not a typo) onto this 3D plane with a Soul mission, and no human on Earth has the authority to impede that unless you give it to them. Not your parents, not your friends, and definitely not society and its systems. You don’t require rules or a go-between to connect with The Divine Spirit of ALL. Soul sovereignty, the absolute authority over your own spiritual life, is yours…you have to claim it! Now, go forth and be great!!!
